Boreal Diner

Jon Howse and Sylvie Mitford have moved from St. John’s to Bonavista to start their newest venture, the Boreal Diner. The Diner will be a casual restaurant/cafe located in the beautifully restored Templeman House on Church Street. Jon and Sylvie have been working in the food and coffee industry for many years, owning and operating two locations of Fixed Coffee in St. John’s. The Boreal Diner will be open year-round and will offer a seasonally-changing menu focusing on local produce and sea food.

Broken Books

Matt Howse, owner of Broken Books, is opening his second location in historic Bonavista. The Bonavista edition of his bookstore will be housed in the upstairs of The Boreal Diner, at 61 Church Street. In St. John’s, Broken Books sells new books, specializing in Newfoundland authors, Newfoundland publishers, contemporary world fiction, graphic novels and poetry, as well as non-fiction, philosophy, cookbooks, children’s books and zines. Broken Books Bonavista Edition will sell new and used books from many genres, including Canadian literature, Newfoundland literature, poetry, young adult fiction, sci-fi, thriller and more.

East Coast Glow

Roger and Karen Dewling are excited to have relocated to beautiful Bonavista to open East Coast Glow – an all natural bath and body shop focusing on all natural cold process soaps, lotions, sea salt bombs and other skin loving products. East Coast Glow collects local plants, salt and icebergs to use in their product line. This includes a new unique iceberg water hydrosol made from native plants. Karen and Roger are excited to have the opportunity to showcase their beautiful province and its abundant resources with their products in their new shop on Church Street.

Paddy Barry Photography

Paddy Barry is a Newfoundland-based landscape and nature photographer with a passion for storytelling, history and the performing arts. He moved to Bonavista in June, 2016, following a 5-year stint on Fogo Island where he worked as Resident Photographer and Ambassador for the award-winning Fogo Island Inn. The Paddy Barry Gallery will showcase the best of his work, focusing primarily on the rugged Fogo Island landscape and his newly adopted home on the Bonavista Peninsula.

Sweet Rock Ice Cream

Sweet Rock is pleased to offer homemade ice cream made fresh on site at the newly restored Linthorne shop in Bonavista.  Once a general store, now your destination for great tasting ice cream!  New flavours introduced weekly.  Our ice cream flavours use both local ingredients and of course chocolates and sweets from our sister store, Aunt Sarah’s Chocolate Shop, in Trinity, NL.   Milkshakes, ice cream desserts, gourmet hot chocolate and assorted chocolates also available.
